Jeff Coates is a Canadian artist who has always been humbled and inspired by the diverse landscapes of this country. A keen outdoorsman, Jeff is most at home foraging in the woods and fishing local waters. For him, nature is balance. And this is what he strives to express in his work.

He paints the landscape wherever he goes. In his current collection, you'll recognize BC's southern Gulf Islands and the Sunshine Coast, the NWT's tundra and the history of Newfoundland.

By high school, Jeff's artistic tendencies were well established and encouraged. He attended the arts program at Cawthra Secondary in Mississauga. He pursued his passion at York University, where he graduated with a Bachelor of Fine Arts in 1996.

At art school in university, Jeff developed his own unique style of mixed media on canvas, including the use of his own photography. Often it is hard to tell where the photo ends and the brush stroke begins. He continues to work in this way — merging realism with the abstract.

Jeff has lived in more Canadian cities than most people have visited, including St John's, Fredericton, Mississauga, Toronto, Winnipeg and Yellowknife. He currently lives with his wife between Vancouver and Galiano Island.

His pieces are available for purchase. They are also available to lease and on loan.
